Founded in 1795 and first known as Payne's Settlement, the Village of Hamilton celebrated its bicentennial in1995. It is located in the Town of Hamilton in Madison County, New York and is home to Colgate University.
Hamilton Central School District
Hamilton Central School, one of the oldest central school districts in the state, first operated as a central school in 1926-27. Common school districts have been annexed over the years with the present district now located in five townships (Hamilton, Eaton, Madison, Lebanon, and Brookfield).
